Matthew Wagner, L.Ac., M.S.O.M.
Certified Acupuncturist & Herbalist - Madison, WI
"I believe that with the proper knowledge, the appropriate care, and the correct self understanding, we can enjoy better health and happiness than we may have believed possible.”
Matthew Wagner is a NCCAOM board licensed herbalist and a Licensed Acupuncturist in the State of Wisconsin. Matt has maintained a private practice since 2010.
Matt found acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine while dealing with his own healing crisis; for a decade he suffered from debilitating insomnia, fatigue, and digestive complaints that were untreatable by conventional medicine. It was only after having had consistent acupuncture and herbal medicine treatments that his life dramatically improved. Inspired by this healing process, Matt made the choice to devote himself to acupuncture and Chinese medicine, so that he may help others going through similar health situations.
From 2010, Matt has maintained a private practice, first in Boulder CO, and in Portland OR, then here in Madison WI. He received his degree from Southwest Acupuncture College in Boulder CO. This Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (M.S.O.M) program consists of a total of 3,045 academic hours, as well as 1,140 hours of clinical practice. Additionally, he completed a private, two-year internship at a clinic in Boulder CO, focusing on herbal and classical theory, needle and hand manipulation techniques, and Qi Gong. Matt has also completed several post-graduate internships and training. These include two, four month long internships in Taipei, Taiwan, with some of the foremost doctors in the field of pain management and herbalism, as well as frequent observations at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and Tzu-Chi Buddhist hospital. Matt also has a Bachelors degree in Linguistics from the University of Wisconsin Madison with emphasis in Middle High German.
Before studying Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, Matt spent 3 years in strict monastic practice as a Zen Buddhist Monk. This monastic training included study in classical Buddhist thought and psychology; classical insight and meditation practices, including Koan study; and finally, aspects of modern psychology.
Matt is an ordained Zen Buddhist Priest. Currently, he offers weekly zen meditation and qigong exercise instructions at Zen Root Healing Arts in Madison WI for his patients and anyone interested in learning the art.
